QR codes for gym equipment that show members how to use each machine

To add QR codes to gym equipment, make one dynamic QR code per machine, point it at that machine's how-to video, and fix a sticker where a member can reach it from the seat. Because the QR code is dynamic, you can replace the video later without touching the sticker.

It also tells you something a poster never could: which machines people are confused by.

  • During a repairOut of order note
  • Everyone elseHow-to video

One sticker can do more than play a video. These are examples you set yourself, and you can change them whenever you like.

Members won't ask, and the placard is too small

New members often skip a machine rather than ask how it works, and the instruction plate bolted to the frame is worn or too small to follow mid-set. Your trainers end up explaining the same seat height again and again.

A QR code on the machine gives each member a short demo on their own phone, at the moment they need it.

Set it up in three steps

  1. 1

    List your machines

Put each machine and its video link in a spreadsheet, and upload it to make up to 100 QR codes at once. Name each one after the machine, like Lat pulldown 2.

  2. 2

    Sticker them at seat height

Print on a wipeable or laminated sticker and place it where someone sitting on the machine can scan it without getting up.

  3. 3

    Check the scans monthly

Machines with lots of scans are the ones people find confusing. That tells you which video to improve and where a trainer should spend time.

Stickers that survive a gym

Sweat, cleaning spray and knocks wear stickers out fast, so choose a laminated or vinyl finish. If one gets damaged, print the same QR code again and every scan keeps working.

Around 3 cm wide is a sensible size for scanning from the seat. Keep dark squares on a light background, and avoid curved tubes, where the QR code can bend out of shape.

How small can a QR code be?

Questions

Do members need an app to scan the QR code?

No. The camera on nearly any modern phone opens it, and the video plays in the browser or on YouTube.

Can I use videos I already have on YouTube?

Yes. A QR code can open any link, including a YouTube video or a page on your own site. HueQR doesn't host the videos.

What if we replace a machine?

Point its QR code at the new video, or move the sticker. Nothing needs reprinting unless the sticker itself is worn.

Print it once, and keep it working

If you cancel, your QR codes keep redirecting for 14 days. Keep-alive keeps up to 10 of them on for good. A lapsed code shows a clean paused page, never an ad, and if HueQR ever closes you get 12 months' notice and a full export.
